Reentry MythBusters is a Council of State Governments project aimed at debunking many myths concerning the successful reentry of formerly incarcerated individuals. They have a wide range of topics available on their website with downloadable infographics aimed at setting the truth straight on many perceived hurdles to the successful reentry into society faced by formerly incarcerated individuals.

Need help obtaining essential documents? Below is a list of resources to aid in obtaining many of the essential documents for obtaining employment, housing, benefits, and other services.


Employment

Indeed – is an employment website featuring jobs ranging from unskilled hourly labor to skilled salaried positions. They feature an easy-to-use app for the phone that keeps you updated in real-time for positions you have applied for, and alerts you when new employment prospects matching your profile are posted.


Craiglist – one of the longest-running community bulletin boards featuring a large section of local jobs.

Housing

Hillsborough House of Hope – Since 1998, the Hillsborough House of Hope has been committed to providing a support system for women transitioning out of correctional institutions and seeking positive reinforcement that aids in their personal, social and professional rehabilitation. Benefits

Florida SNAP/EBT Program – also known as “Food Stamps”, SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Access Program) helps individuals and families supplement their ability to purchase food. You can apply for SNAP benefits through the MyFLFamilies.com website. If you have an account created for the MyFLFamilies.com website, you can log in here to check, update, renew or review your benefits.


Social Security Disability Income – a program for disabled individuals to receive income benefits. You can apply online for benefits or manage your existing Social Security account online.


Hillsborough Health Plan – Hillsborough County offers affordable health and dental care for residents who are having issues obtaining traditional health insurance. You can apply for the Hillsborough Health Plan online.


For Veterans

Veterans Resources – a comprehensive site with services and resources for Veterans dealing with PTSD and substance abuse disorders and many other.


Treatment

Salvation Army – Tampa Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center offers no-cost treatment for drug and alcohol addiction. The Salvation Army’s program is centered on 12-step recovery and Christian values. The center focuses on work therapy, where residents work full-time in the warehouse that provides the area with goods for the Salvation Army family thrift stores.


Cove behavioral health – Formerly Drug Abuse Comprehensive Coordination Office, is a community treatment center, that provides treatment to both men and women. They provide both residential and outpatient services on a sliding-fee scale. Check with admissions for grant and program eligibility.
